A Postpartum Style Reset in Brooklyn
Maddie lives in Brooklyn with her husband and young son. Before becoming a mom, she and her husband lived and traveled all over the world, eventually returning to Brooklyn to raise their family.
These days, she loves exploring new museums and restaurants, staying involved in her community, and making time for her girlfriends. Last spring and summer, Maddie worked virtually with me during a major life transition, looking for a way to feel more like herself again through what she wore.
A wardrobe that didn’t match reality
Before working together, getting dressed felt frustrating and discouraging. As a first-time postpartum mom, none of Maddie’s old clothes fit her body or her lifestyle. Her wardrobe felt random, disconnected, and out of sync with her day-to-day reality as an active parent balancing career events and city life.
“I was panic shopping before events because nothing in my closet felt coherent or enticing to wear,” she shared.
Learning to shop with intention instead of urgency
What surprised Maddie most was discovering that the styles she was drawn to didn’t match what she owned. Through guided reflection and style discovery, she realized her preferences leaned more classic and menswear-inspired than she ever expected.
“Hannah basically rewired my brain for thinking about personal style and shopping,” Maddie said. Having a clear point of view helped her shop with intention and confidence instead of anxiety.
Defining her style now
Now, getting dressed feels simpler and more comforting. Panic shopping has disappeared, and outfits feel formulaic in a way that supports busy mornings and in-office workdays.
“I actually enjoy shopping now, and I love the way my body looks in my clothes.”
What stayed with Maddie were the tools: An understanding of her style, a wardrobe that fits her life, and a system she can return to through different seasons.
